Like magpies, we have been loving metallics and sequins lately! Mallory honestly wants some sequin pants like those by Calypso, but is NOT about to shell out $600..anyone have any less expensive ideas?

Tomorrow we leave for Tahoe and are really excited! We are also grossly unprepared, we are ill-equipped for weather colder than 50 degrees. We fully expect to look at least 10 lbs heavier in all photos due to excessive layering :).

It was really warm today for some reason, so it was too bad Mallory was cooped up in the lab all day and Whitney was in the library :(. It's okay though, because we are going to be bad students and go to TAHOE during deadweek (the week between the last class and the first final). hehe :). We are slightly concerned about our complete lack of snow clothes, so expect photos of us in 800 sweaters each.

We are too tired to think of a title today, and after thinking about it for like...two minutes we still couldn't think of anything. Once ideas devolved into nouns that we saw around the room we decided to give up. Ideas thrown out: "Twirling in Chiffon" "Pink Chiffon" by Whitney...lol. She is so creative ;). Might as well title it "Wearing clothes" or "Posing on the sidewalk."

Anyway, not much to report today...we are basically stressing out about upcoming finals. we at least have a few things to look forward to...Thanksgiving, Tahoe, and Shoemint! Before heading to Saks Fifth Avenue last Thursday, we managed to visit the Marc Jacobs FNO event to get free tote bags! We were surprised by the huge creepy clown print, but it managed to grow on us...a little. Besides, the bag is super sturdy :D

Also, Mallory's shoes really were purchased from a clubbing-wear website! They reminded us of the steve madden grettta, but for a fraction of the price!

School has started, and it is amazing how stressed out we are already. At least we finally have a class together again, the first one since sophomore year! The weather in Berkeley has been cooler than usual this time of year. It is usually freezing in the morning, but warm and sunny by the end of our first classes, so we have been dressing in layers. We apologize for the sporadic posting, but as soon as we fall into our schedules we will get our acts together and post more regularly. Here’s to a happy school year!

DIY Crochet Shorts

This week I went home to visit my family before school starts. I was excited to wear my new DIYed-inspired-by-Whitney crochet shorts! I was so jealous of the shorts she wore in the Pajama Party post that I decided to DIY them using crochet trimmings and boys boxer shorts (that was an awkward target buy...).
Also, if you are wondering about the long sleeve tee under short sleeve shirt à la seventh grade, it's because I forgot to bring a sweater home, and I love the texture of the top of this blouse!

Whitney and I will reunite on Monday, so until then I will leave you with the adorable photo of the turtle I saw at the aquarium this weekend.

I have given up my life as a mermaid, and become a normal human. AKA I have chopped my freakishly long hair to a normal length. I miss it already, but it is nice to not have to worry about running out of conditioner in one week.

This maxi skirt is the one I thrifted the other day. I washed it because I couldn't find the care tag...and it was DEFINITELY a dry clean only skirt. It used to be pleated. That's cool, the color still qualifies it as my perfect maxi skirt, so I will not deprive it of the title it was awarded last post.

Also, Whitney and I were not kidding when we said we were killing it at thrifting. We went to Crossroads two days ago, and I found this Coach bag...and a Longchamp bag (in the color I had wanted from last year!). Woop woop!

Thrifty nifties

Yesterday we went thrifting at Thrift Town in SF. Usually it takes us hours only to end up with nothing, but this time we hit the jackpot. We both found ugly mom-jeans begging to be DIYed into high-waisted shorts and Mallory finally found the perfect maxi skirt. Our favorite thrift of the day was also the most expensive, a $10 silk robe. After thirty minutes in Thrift Town, our perception of cheap and expensive had already been skewed, so neither of us wanted to pay the WHOLE $10. Finally, we decided to go in together and share the robe. We cut it short to make a kimono and used the spare fabric to make two turbans. This weekend we went to the Garlic Festival and the Stern Grove Festival series. We tried garlic ice cream, which is not as disgusting as it sounds. After Garlic Festival, we went to the outlets to go shopping, and clothes were so cheap, they were basically free. Mallory got her pants for 6 dollars and Whitney a necklace for 2 dollars! Then on sunday the SF Ballet was performing at Stern Grove, but we went really late and only got seats at the very end at the show. We were still really impressed by how they held up their legs... we got sore from just sitting on the cement for 40 minutes. Don't worry we are going to the gym starting this week!

Reunited and it feels so good! Whitney just got back from China, so today we went out to get Hello Kitty Yogurtland to celebrate. The Yogurtland window had a really cute “photo-op” with all the Sanrio characters, but a stranger was standing in the way so we couldn’t take a picture :(. Now that we are both in California we will be posting much more often, and most will probably involve us going to get all the food we missed while we were away. This post is the first of many.

The island was beautiful, but the best part was the donkeys (one of my favie animals). They all had pretty headdresses with beads and bells that you could hear as they wandered around the city. My study abroad program has ended and I’ve been making my way around southeast asia exploring ginormous Cambodian temples, riding elephants, playing with tigers, doing jungle bungee jumping, doing cliff diving, ziplining, and binging on mangosteens in Thailand. This trip has been the most exhausting yet amazing experiences ever! Unfortunately, wearing anything slightly impractical would have been too inconvenient for all of my adventures thus far. Outfit posts have been nearly impossible, but I'm sure Mal will keep inspiring :) I loved her last post! I miss you Mallory!

As promised, an outfit! This is the poncho that I thought was a scarf when I bought it. Turns out, I kinda like it as a poncho, even with the whole drama-teacher vibe. I was wearing this poncho when I saw these scalloped shorts, and when I tried them on, realized they looked better with my outfit than the shorts I was wearing...so I bought them and changed immediately. Hey all, sorry for the extended absence. For the most part, the last two weeks have not been too kind to either of us. For me, it has been finals. I honestly do not understand how i can still have 3 finals, when i have already taken 4. blech. Plus, before my last 8:30 final, the tram was broken down. having no car, no bike, and no phone (I just ran out of minutes) I was freaking out. Luckily, thanks to a replacement bus (that randomly dropped me off in an intersection somewhat close to my final) and my not-so-amazing speed in loafers, I managed to get there just five minutes late. Great way to go into a final...

ANYWAY, three days in the Basque region (on the border of France and Spain along the Atlantic coast), was exactly what I needed to recharge for my next set of finals this week. I have no outfit pictures, as I was too busy soaking in the scenery. The Basque region is literally my dream: mountains, forest AND sandy beaches. It doesn't get any better than that.

I hope to post sometime this week, provided I don't get too grumpy from finals...

As for Whitney, she is currently on vacation. I know she will come back with some amazing photos, I am fully expecting a recreation of the antm photo shoot with the elephants in Thailand...remember?

i'm not sure if you have noticed, but i am slightly obsessed with feathers. so you can imagine my excitement when i found this necklace for seven euros! i went shopping this week in paris with my cousins and aunt, and found a couple other cute items as well, including a gift for whitney :). the belt i found a while ago for 2 euros at a random store...so i guess i shouldn't be too jealous of whitney and her ridiculous deals. although i remain incredibly jealous of her most recent sweater purchase...

in less exciting news, whitney and i have tests approaching (finals for me and midterms for whitney) so we apologize for the possible delays in posting.

but...unlike whitney in this post...i have photographic evidence! today i biked part of the loire valley to see a chateaux i have always dreamed of visiting, chenonceau. having not been bike-riding since i was seven...i believe i no longer have ANY of the muscles required for it. i am such a wuss, it was only 13 km each way, and the hills weren't THAT big, but my legsies are already sore. the country side was gorgeous, exactly as one would imagine the french countryside...stone houses with vines, roosters, cats, etc etc.

btw...i was wearing the helmet you see on my handlebars for the actual ride...riding with my aunt=helmet required. dorky but safe:)

Although it's been super hot and humid this past week in Shanghai, I couldn't resist buying an oversized-poncho-looking sweater when I went shopping with my friends yesterday. We went to a shopping area literally named "cheap road." The name, as you can guess, comes from all the unbelievably inexpensive clothes and accessories the place sells. Unfortunately, in Shanghai, I don't think there will be a noticeable difference between spring and summer. Now that it's not super cold anymore, it's simply super hot..or at least to me and my friends. Yesterday as we were walking around the city in tanks and t-shirts, we were shocked seeing people in turtlenecks and jackets. Vice versa, people approached us to ask if we were cold. We'll probably suffocate when summer finally comes :(

Apologies for a lack of updates! I was in Beijing for five days :) Beijing was awesome! I went to the forbidden city, tiananmen square, and the great wall. i'm sure I also gained a few pounds after sharing 5 peking ducks with my friends haha. the last week here it has been rainy. which basically reflected my mood: boyfriend went back to the states, i had two midterms, and had to cancel my london trip. I went to my first fabric market a couple days ago, and it was amazing! Anything one could imagine could be custom-made at this place--dresses, leather jackets, costumes, etc. I decided to go with a red trench, which hopefully won't turn out to be too wild. While the seamstress measured me, she told me that I had unusually broad shoulders =/ (i was a swimmer)

As I left the fabric market, I saw a line of street vendors selling jewelry, and went out of control. I bought so much that I didn't have enough money for lunch. My favorite pieces are in the picture above! :)

spring is here! so when boyfriend was here last week, we went to the beach! it was absolutely beautiful. we were planning to go climb the giant dune de pyla, but it was so warm and sunny we just ended up sleeping on the beach for hours :)

i felt a bit weird wearing boots at the beach, but noone was wearing sandels there, and we wanted to go to dinner after. when we went to dinner the belt was the problem haha. i bought a large so i could wrap it around twice, but when i eat too much, there isnt much room to loosen it :(

so i had already been wearing this outfit, when i discovered that the party i was going to later that night was an "american" themed. whatever that means... but i guess i managed to turn it into a costume party. what it actually meant was loud american pop music, oh well.

on a completely unrelated note, i went to the carnival yesterday that is in bordeaux, and got 12 churros for 3 euros. also nutella to dip them in. AMAZING. its a good thing that the carnival wont be here forever, becuase i have no self control when it comes to sweets. i had to loosen my belt after i ate them, oof. worth it.

p.s. i always forget whether i call it a button-up or a button-down. when i button i start in the middle, so its kinda both...herm.

phoenix is the name of this adorable pupster, but here in france it is pronounced feh-neex. he is the dog of my host family, and he used to be a show dog. now he spends most of his time rolling around in straw and nudging people for pets. this week has been BEAUTIFUL in bordeaux, temperatures in the mid to high 60s, meaning i have spent the afternoons basking in the sun with pheonix, who is an expert basker (aka sleeps on the warm cement).

hope other people are having as beautiful weather as i am! (i know whitney is not, she has already complained to me this week hehe).

oh, and in case you haven't noticed, i'm slightly obsessed with stripes. and elbow pads. making this sweater the perfect storm. i wish i could personally thank HM for creating this beauty!

I found it at h&m last year for $30, and just couldn't stop myself from buying it even though I wasn't in love it at the time. hello, all! i am back from italy :). it was UNREAL. italy is so beautiful i felt like i was in a dream. also, the gelato and hot chocolate (which is more like chocolate soup) was to die for. i had one or both every day for the 10 days i was there...and may or may not have eaten them in place of dinner on multiple occasions...but its vacation, right?? i will probably post a couple of photos as soon as i have access to them (i kept running out of space on my dinky sd card and had to upload them to my friend's computer).

anywayyy...let's talk about this coat! SO, in rome, there were two zaras close to the apartment we stayed at. both of them had the most beautiful green silk ruffle-sleeved shirt in the window. i drooled when we walked by it for three days, but restrained from buying it. back in bordeaux, i broke down and decided to go look for it, but my zara didn't have it. i wanted to cry. but, lucky me, i found this coat instead...for 15 EUROS! amazing. there was only one, and it was my size...it was destined to be: starcrossed lovers, this coat and i. i love the ridiculous collar, which is actually a ridiculous hood!

So, today was a BEAUTIFUL day! i wore this and was perfectly comfortable. however, all the bordelais and bordelaises were still wearing coats and scarves...very strange. i learned from berkeley, season is irrelevent, if the suns out, you take advantage! exciting news, i get to go to paris in a couple of days for the weekend! it is supposed to be cold there though, so definitely no shorts! i have never been and am soooo very excited! cannot wait to go up the eiffel tower at night!

plus, i would like to apologize again for the awkward photos, its hard to take pictures with my self-timer. i am always in mid-motion or mid-blink and thus look unintelligent...so what you see is quite honestly the best of the bunch...use your imagination and think how awful those others must be! i promise to take some real photos in paris!

first of all, i would like to preface with i AM in fact wearing shorts, i promise. this sweater is one of my greatest splurges, it is so comfy :). i wore it on the plane to france because its like wearing a blanket, which is awesome. it has been super cold here (it technically "snowed" yesterday for two minutes or something) so it's nice to have such a giant sweater to layer in lieu of a coat every now and then. and btw, expect to see these shoes a lot, i only brought a few pairs of flats and zero heels to save space in my suitcase...which i am now coming to regret.

ok guys, sorry i have been mia but there is just so much to do here! also, bad news for my bank account, there is a five week sale called "les soldes" where EVERY store is on sale. it's AMAZING...especially because bordeaux has the longest single shopping street in europe: rue st catherine!

mallory's productive week

so this week i have basically been crafting! i made six of the bib necklaces i wore in my last post and knit two circle scarves! (including the one i am wearing here). i feel very accomplished :)

i hope you all had a lovely holiday; i am pretty sure i gained a couple of pounds already...soooo many cookies. whenever i bake, i always manage to eat about a third of whatever i'm baking, which forces me to double recipes if i ever want to give some away. boof...so full.

i also have a comment about steve madden boots, who i am currently mad at! i have bought two pairs in the past two years, both of which have only lasted a year >:I . i had to replace my old riding boots with these ones, and i am kind of annoyed...has anyone else had issues like this? maybe i just walk like a monster leading me to wear them out super fast or something...

I've been wearing this around in the cold almost everyday: my favorite coat, favorite boots, and favorite purse. This purse is my baby, and even though it's quite an expensive baby, I've had it for two years already and can see myself with it for years to come :) With it, I don't need buy another bag for a very long time!

Anyway, Mallory has left, but I'm still in Berkeley trying to find someone to sublet my room while I study abroad. People keep backing out at the last minute, and it's making me really angry. I still haven't found anyone yet :(

this was the last photoshoot before mallory and whitney go abroad. this was also the last day they got to see each other...eight months apart :(. it was also super rainy and dark (so hard to take pictures!!) before leaving, though we got our nails done and saw Tangled (wow, seriously how cute was that horse! he was so angry and adorable!). anyway, we will be posting while we are away, though it may be a bit slow in the beginning as we are settling in! we hope everyone is enjoying the holidays!

hello all! so we both like to indulge in unhealthy food sometimes...a favorite (besides hot cheetos) being HOT DOGS! so what appropriate tights, eh? one time, when we were going to partake in said food, we went to a famous berkeley hot dog place and whitney had a traumatic experience. this hot dog place has lots of variety, and when it came whitney's turn to order, she asked which of the many options was a "regular" hot dog. the man replied (in a super sassy voice) does anything on this menu look regular to you?? mean...

but anyway, we still love hot dogs, and mallory managed to not get angry at this man and let him ruin hot dogs forever so its okay!

I love polka dots, but I love polka squares more! And remember this vest that I got a while ago? I'm finally wearing it haha..I think it's made of wool, so it's kinda itchy :( At least it's warm, and a pretty mustard yellow color!

i have been super busy as the semester winds down :( i did at least get to shop around after my french visa appointment in san francisco. i got this hat at h&m this yesterday because our apartment is unbelievably cold! i even slept in it last night haha.

I've had side-swept bangs for a long time and when I first came to college, my friends remembered me as the girl with bangs. I've only recently been clipping them up because they've become too long!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I'm so glad to be home, but I'm spending the rest of break studying for an upcoming lab practical :(

so i have been wanting a cape for a long time, and i finally found this perfect one at zara! it is now my favorite item in my closet :)

by the way, i don't know if you have noticed, but i am a bit of a braidzilla...i pretty much wear some sort of braid in my hair almost everyday. the weirdest thing happened in french class the other day. my french professor gave all my papers to this other girl in my class, and even called this girl by my name. this girl doesn't look anything like me, she is even blonde. my professor explained that she got confused because this girl was wearing a braid in her hair, and i always have a braid in my hair...apparently this is a defining characteristic of my appearance haha.

anyway, i hope you all have lovely thanksgivings! i plan to eat a TON of mashed potatoes (my favie!)

this week i have been sick, and even had to skip some classes :(. so i went home this weekend to see my family and recover. i have heard that dogs help people heal faster, and i definitely feel better after hanging out with my pup, peanut! i know this isn't really an outfit post, but i promise i will have a new post early this week!

on veterens day, i hung out with my best friend since third grade, rachel. everyone we know basically thinks we are twins! people even say we look alike (we don't, as you can see, they are crazy!). people even call us by the wrong name sometimes, it's pretty ridiculous. if you guys remember crystal from one of whitney's earlier post, rachel is to me as crystal is to whitney. hopefully someday soon we can have a best friends post, with all four of us or something! :) oh, and btw im wearing rachie's shoes and rachie is wearing my scarf.

Like Mallory, I've finally finished all my midterms and papers! Thursday night was pretty bad..I stayed up all night completing a paper that I started super late. Why do I always do this to myself?!

I got my second pair of Steve Madden shoes! They're hiding in the grass though :( Hopefully I'll be able to take better pictures next time! Also, for those of you who were wondering what nail polish I was wearing in my last post, I was wearing essie's "sew psyched."

i finally get a bit of a break from school. i just had my huge presentation yesterday so i now just have finals to look forward to in a couple weeks. in the meantime i hope to post more! East and I are Jersey Shore fans and there's no doubt that Snooki is our favorite! For my birthday, East made these rhinestone Snooki glasses for me. Snooki's are probably encrusted with diamonds, but mine have heart-shaped rhinestones! HA! Surprisingly, I can still see with them on. As much as I love the show, this is as close to being a guidette as I will ever be.

I've been looking for a pussy bow blouse for a while and I found one last week when I went to thrifting! If only I could have found a leather satchel and a pair of scallop hemmed shorts...!
